Frequently Asked Questions About Window Replacement in Elk Grove & Sacramento
How much does it cost to replace windows in Sacramento?
Window replacement typically costs between $800-$2500 per window including labor depending on the size and style of window. Vinyl windows are less expensive than fiberglass and wood windows.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes I have a California general contractors license and a California glazing C-17 license. I have comprehensive liability insurance, and have been in business over 25 years.
What kind of warranty is provided?
I have a labor warranty of up to 10 years. The manufacturer provides a limited lifetime warranty for all windows and doors.
Can you replace just the glass in a window?
Yes, but if the frame is old, leaks or is damaged it is best to replace the frame as well.
Do you subcontract out your installation?
No, you will work entirely with me. I will help you pick out the best product for your budget, do the measuring, and will do the installation. This eliminates a salesman and keeps the cost down.
How long do I wait for my new windows or doors?
Typically the wait is up to 4 weeks, and for special orders up to 8 weeks.
What is the installation process?
Before installation day, please remove any drapes or shades. On the day of installation, I will provide all necessary drop cloths, pull out and dispose of old windows and doors, reinstall new windows or doors, and finish with fresh caulking. We ask that you wait 24 hours for the caulking to dry. Most installations are completed in 1 day. I will clean up everything and ensure your satisfaction.
What type of glass is used?
All new windows come dual paned, with Low-E3 and Argon gas's filled. This makes the windows very energy efficient.
Which is better: replacement (retrofit) window installation or new construction window installation?
Replacement (retrofit) windows are installed into the existing window frame, making them more cost-effective and less invasive for most homes. New construction windows are typically used when there is structural damage, leaks in the original frame, or during major remodels. These installations require removing the existing frame and adding waterproofing materials, such as building paper and new stucco or trim, to ensure proper sealing and long-term performance.
Is it worth replacing 20-year-old windows?
Yes. Most 20-year-old windows lack modern insulation, Low-E coatings, and energy-efficient glass technology. Replacing them can improve comfort, reduce heat transfer during hot Elk Grove summers, and increase home value.
What is the best time of year to install windows?
Window installation can be done year-round in Northern California. Spring and fall are popular due to mild weather, but experienced installers can complete projects efficiently even during summer or winter.
Is it cheaper to replace all windows at once?
In many cases, yes. Replacing multiple windows at the same time can reduce labor costs and improve overall project efficiency. However, phased replacements are also an option depending on budget.
How do I choose the right window contractor?
Look for a licensed contractor with strong local experience, clear communication, multiple product options, and no high-pressure sales tactics. You can read our full guide on how to choose the right window contractor in Elk Grove and Sacramento.
Do you pull permits for window replacement?
Yes. We pull permits when required. Most retrofit window replacements do not require permits in many counties, while new construction installations typically do.
